There are a number of situations that qualify as an orthodontic emergency. Don’t hesitate to call our office immediately if any of the following orthodontic emergencies happen to you.

Injuries Inside The Mouth

Some discomfort with braces is normal, but sores on the inside of the mouth and irritation of the lips and cheeks can lead to open wounds susceptible to infection, and should be handles as soon as possible.

Loose Brackets and Protruding Wires

Sometimes the end of a wire will work itself out of place, and the sharp end can cause puncture wounds in the cheek and gums. Brackets can become loose due to injury or eating a particularly hard food. Take care to prevent swallowing or having the bracket cut into the inside of the mouth.
